Get it sorted

How can I take control?

To help you identify the symptoms of BV and differentiate between other common vaginal infections such as Thrush and Trichomoniasis (or Trich), a free Vaginal Infections Symptoms Sorter is now available to download. Not only does it explain what’s normal and what’s not when it comes to your vaginal health, it also includes handy hints and tips to help ensure your vagina stays healthy.

It can be difficult to tell the difference between the three most common vaginal infections. To help you, the symptoms you’re most likely to notice if you have BV, Trich or Thrush are outlined below*:

Symptoms of BV:

  • Unpleasant ‘fishy’ vaginal odour
  • Abnormal discharge (usually thin and greyish in colour)
  • Vaginal discomfort

Itching and a thick white discharge are not symptoms of BV

Symptoms of Thrush:

  • Abnormal discharge, usually thick and curd-like (similar to cottage cheese)
  • Severe itching in the vaginal area, redness, irritation, and even a burning sensation

Fishy odour is not a symptom of Thrush

Symptoms of Trich (in women):

  • Thin, frothy discharge – often yellow or green
  • Very strong fishy smell
  • Vaginal itching and soreness
  • Pain or discomfort when passing urine
  • Discomfort during sex

* Sometimes you may not show all, or any, of the usual symptoms but still be suffering from the infection. You could also suffer from more than one, or another infection not outlined above. Use this information as a guide only and ensure you get a confirmed medical diagnosis from your GP or Sexual Health Clinic.

Avoiding the embarrassment factor

Too shy to talk to your doctor?

The Symptoms Sorter contains a discreet checklist that you can use to record the consistency, colour and smell of your vaginal discharge and identify other symptoms which may indicate that you have a vaginal infection.

The best part is you can fill it in before you visit your doctor or Sexual Health Clinic to help you start a conversation about vaginal infections and get diagnosed with minimal fuss or embarrassment.
