Thrush is the common term for a fungal infection caused by the yeast called Candida albicans, and it is the second most common vaginal condition after BV. Women with BV often think they have thrush.
Thrush is a condition caused by a yeast that lives on the skin and around the vulval/vaginal area. If the natural balance of micro-organisms in the vagina is disturbed, a thrush infection can occur. It’s caused by the yeast Candida albicans, and it causes intense itching and irritation, even a burning sensation and a thick, curd like white vaginal discharge.
Thrush does not cause a bad smell.
